NEWSFLASH - 1 May 2018: Short & Curly are one of the five finalists in the Outstanding Regional section of the WAM (West Australian Music) Song of the Year awards for the song 'Three Stories to the Truth', off our album Fugitive Souls.
Steve 'Short' Packer and Karen 'Curly' Hunt live in the beautiful, historic rural town of Bridgetown, in southern Western Australia (WA).
Our distinctive live sound is comprised of Curly's semi-acoustic guitars (Maton, Taylor), Short's harmonicas and our two voices, individually and in harmony.
We describe ourselves as country/blues/folk, and we blend and bend those styles to have one of our own. With the songs we write and choose to cover, we also draw on pop, rock, reggae, rhythm 'n' blues...
Since 2009, when we played our first gig and wrote our first song, we've been booked for about 600 appearances all over WA – at pubs, breweries, wineries, cafe/bars, festivals, agricultural shows, trotting club meetings, and private functions including parties and weddings. In 2015 we toured across South Australia and Victoria to Melbourne.
At full gigs, we usually play about one-third original songs and two-thirds covers. It all comes out 'Short & Curly'.
Our primary aim is to 'serve the song' to the best of our ability. We always consider it a privilege to play for anyone who wants to listen.
Fair to say our strengths are:
- A repertoire that's renowned for its attention-holding variety and broad appeal.
- Our ability to tailor the content, mood and volume of our performances to suit any given situation.
- Our unwavering enthusiasm for playing.
